Who Are We?

The International Literacy Association (ILA) is a global advocacy and membership organization dedicated to advancing literacy for all through our network of more than 300,000 literacy educators, researchers, and experts across 75 countries.

With over 60 years of experience, ILA has set the standard for how literacy is defined, taught, and evaluated. We collaborate with partners across the world to develop, gather, and disseminate high quality resources, best practices, and cutting-edge research to empower educators, inspire students, and inform policymakers.

Our team, our members, and our worldwide community of literacy practitioners dream, eat, and breathe literacy. Why? Because every day we see the power literacy has to change people's lives. To help them develop their knowledge and potential. To earn their livelihood. To participate fully in their community and wider society.

To enjoy continuous learning and the fullness it brings to their lives.

It's that important. And we're here to make sure that everyone, in every corner of the world, has access to this transformative power. Click here to learn more about us!
